LanternLight Core

Local control, voice, and diagnostics for LanternLight devices

Choose your workspace

Start here for health, limits, and the safest next step.

Help: Overview is read-only. Amber warnings identify controls that can use lights, sound, the microphone, or device state. Switching workspaces never sends a device command.

Device Capability Readiness

Live status, evidence quality, limits, and the safest next action in one place.

How to read this: Ready means usable now, not physically perfect. Human check means the code exists but needs eyes, ears, or hands. Available, off is an intentional privacy/safety state. Not implemented is a future boundary—not a fault.

Capability status is loading.

Device Feature Guide

What works, what moves hardware, and where to start

Everyday controls

States immediately change the Lantern's light, 8×8 symbol, and cue. Alarm / Timer schedules or starts the repeating alarm. Use Stop Alarm or the physical rotary button to silence it.

Voice and listening

Speech buttons play through the Lantern speaker. Recording and wake controls use its microphone. Wake listening is a manual pilot and stays off unless you enable it.

Current hardware limits

Lantern1 is wall-powered, so battery readings are intentionally unavailable. Bluetooth-named states are expression previews only; Bluetooth transport is not implemented.

Safe troubleshooting order

Check System Snapshot, then Network Lanterns, then refresh the affected panel. Open Legacy Developer Tools only for connection, output, symbol, light, or cue diagnostics.

Physical action: amber buttons in States, Alarm / Timer, Voice / Audio, and Legacy Developer Tools can change lights, sound, microphone capture, or device state immediately.

Recent Playback Diagnostics

Telemetry analysis is read-only. Refreshing never plays audio or sends a device command. “Acknowledge evidence” only marks a retained record reviewed; it does not delete the evidence, play audio, or contact the Lantern.

No playback telemetry yet.

Wake-Word Diagnostics

Review and label openWakeWord triggers from the local pipeline.

Network Lanterns

States

Physical action: each state button immediately changes the connected Lantern's light, symbol, and cue. Bluetooth states preview expressions only.

Alarm / Timer

Physical action: Start Now sounds the Lantern immediately. Scheduled alarms remain local to Core until their fire time.

Alarm is idle.
No scheduled alarms.

The Vogon Poetry Machine

Guardian assigns Hermes a poem, then optionally has the Network Lantern announce and read it.

Generation-only samples use the selected provider and never play through Lantern.

Piper Voice Effects (Optional)

Unchecked mode is the safe dry run: Guardian, Hermes, Bridge, and validation still run, but no speech is sent.

Ready. Choose a subject and run a dry test first.

Lantern Voice Assignment

Pocket Alba is the Lantern-wide default. Auto mode uses Pocket first and safely falls back to the configured Piper voice if Pocket is unavailable.

Per-Lantern assignments can use a built-in Pocket voice or an installed Piper voice. Assigning a voice changes future speech for that Lantern; playing a sample sends audible speech to the selected device.
